Local Priest Is Ready To Take On Bobby Flay

More Information About "Grace Before Meals"

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Father Leo is a Catholic priest and an accomplished chef who teaches at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg. He's taken a simple idea and turned it into a worldwide movement.

Ron Matz has more on a man with a mission who is ready to challenge one of the most famous chefs in the world.

Father Leo is a great cook. He's also the author of the best-selling book, "Grace Before Meals."

"God's got a plan for everyone and I had no idea that it was going to turn out like this.  I didn't know I was going to become a priest.  I love my life as a priest, and if God calls me to serve people body, mind and soul, I'm loving it already," Father Leo said.

He's cooking up a storm at Da Mimmo's Restaurant in Little Italy. That's because Wednesday night you'll see Father Leo take on Bobby Flay, the Iron Chef, for a Food Channel throwdown.

Father Leo's message is simple--sharing a meal can strengthen relationships.

"When I lived in Italy and studied at the North American College, I realized the power of food.  There's a lot of shows that talk about how to make the food. I want to talk about the purpose of the food, which is to bring family and friends together," Father Leo said. "I think that in a very fast paced society, I think we forget the blessings around the table."

They'll be a big celebration Wednesday night from 8-10 p.m. on Da Mimmo's parking lot.

"Father Leo will be there for a book signing. At 9, we'll take a live feed from the Food Network and we'll watch it on the movie screen," said Mary Anne Cricchio of Da Mimmo's. "Bring your lawn chair, bring your appetite and come to Little Italy."

"Family, food, fun, faith and friends.  It's going to be a good time, just like the summers during the film festival," said Father Leo.
