Md. Transit Ridership Increase Among Highest
BALTIMORE (AP) ―
Environment Maryland says the 15 percent increase in transit ridership in Maryland last year was among the highest nationwide.
The environmental group released the report Tuesday at the Camden Yards MARC station, where it also called for increased transit funding. The group says transportation accounts for about a third of carbon dioxide pollution, and last year's increase in Maryland saved more than 60 million gallons of gasoline.
Environment Maryland was joined by David McClure, president of Local 1300 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, who said increased transit funding would generate jobs and provide transit services the increased ridership numbers show are needed.
