Judge Upholds $150M Award In Gas Leak Lawsuit

TOWSON, Md. (AP) ― A Baltimore County judge has upheld nearly all of a $150 million award to 89 homeowners who sued ExxonMobil claiming a leaking gasoline station tank contaminated their wells.

Visiting Judge Maurice W. Baldwin Jr. reduced four plaintiffs' non-economic damages to $665,000, the cap at the time of the 26,000-plus-gallon leak, and cut awards to four plaintiffs for the diminished value of their homes.

However, Baldwin denied motions filed by both sides' lawyers, including one in which Exxon sought to throw out more than $14 million in medical monitoring damages.

The 2006 leak occurred in Jacksonville, a small, affluent community about 20 miles north of Baltimore.
