Cumberland's Value City Store To Remain Open

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) ―

The Value City store in Cumberland won't be closing, after all.

Manager Glenn Campbell tells The (Cumberland) Times-News that he was informed by his district manager last week that the store on Queen City Drive would remain open.

Campbell says he informed his employees Thursday. He says the reversal saves about 40 jobs.

The decision to close the store was announced in January, after Columbus, Ohio-based VCHI Acquisition Co., acquired majority ownership of the chain of discount stores from Retail Ventures Inc., also based in Columbus.
