Richard Sher

Richard Sher joined WJZ in 1975. From 1988 to February 1995, he co-anchored the weekend newscasts.  He was then the co-anchor of Eyewitness News at Five until January 1998.

Richard also hosted SQUARE OFF, a quarterly prime-time one hour program which featured prominent, local citizens discussing timely and controversial subjects. He co-hosted WJZ's morning talk show, PEOPLE ARE TALKING for ten years. He was co-host for five years with Oprah Winfrey followed by Beverly Burke and Linda Harris.

Prior to WJZ, Richard was news director for WBAL-FM Radio where he established an all-news format for the station.

He has also worked in San Francisco and Washington, D.C..

Richard has worked actively for Maryland Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Baltimore City Council for Exceptional Children and Associated Jewish Charities.

For 15 years, he hosted WJZ's annual telethon for United Cerebral Palsy.

Richard, a native of Baltimore, received his undergraduate degree in 1963 and his Master of Arts degree in Communications in 1965 from the University of Maryland, College Park. Richard's interests include reading, tennis and rock and roll oldies.
