On-air Personalities

Mike Perry

Piloted by Captain Mike Perry, WJZ's Sky Eye Chopper 13 is the first news helicopter to patrol the skies in Baltimore.

It's an American Eurocopter AS-350BA A-STAR with a top speed of 150 mph that can get an Eyewitness News team to the scene of breaking news in just minutes.

The gyro-stabilized camera mounted on the front of Sky Eye Chopper 13 has a 70:1 zoom that provides incredible close-up pictures.

The onboard self tracking transmitter delivers those pictures live to Eyewitness News for instant transmission of news as it happens.

When you look up in the sky, there's a good chance you'll see Sky Eye Chopper 13 heading off to breaking news stories faster than ever before  and bringing it live to your television set.

So if you see us, look up and wave to the high-flying member of Maryland's News Station.

Mike joined WJZ in August of 2003. He retired after 23 years service as a Senior Patrolman and Helicopter Pilot with the Baltimore County Police Department. He began flying in 1989 as a Pilot in the Maryland Army National Guard and while there, attained the rank of Captain. A lifelong Maryland resident, he is married with three children and lives in Baltimore County.

Mike can be seen and heard daily in Sky Eye Chopper 13 over breaking news as it happens.
