Gigi Barnett

Gigi Barnett joined WJZ Eyewitness News as a general assignment reporter in October 2002.

A native Floridian, Gigi began her career at the Miami Herald. After a few years in print and public television, she decided to follow a career in TV news full time. She covered the nation's capital for the Medill News Service. Gigi covered general assignment and health news for TV3 in Dublin, Ireland, becoming the first black journalist to work for a commercial television station in Ireland.

Gigi's last stop took her to Mobile, Alabama where she covered education at WPMI-TV. She was also an adjunct professor at the University of South Alabama.

Gigi received her B.A. in Mass Communications from Clark Atlanta University. She also has an M.S.J from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, where she was the first Hope Bartlett Scholar.

When she's not in front of the camera, Gigi loves to read, teach step aerobics and participate in community service events through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
