Gigi Barnett

Gigi Barnett joined WJZ Eyewitness News as a general assignment reporter in October 2002.

She began her career reporting at The Miami Herald. After a few years in newspaper and public television, she decided to follow a career in TV news full time. She's covered the nation's capital for the Medill News Service. Gigi has also covered general assignment and health news for TV3 News in Dublin, Ireland; becoming the first African-American journalist to report for a commercial television station in Ireland.

Her last stop took her to Mobile, Ala. where she covered education at WPMI-TV. She was also an adjunct professor at the University of South Alabama. In addition to reporting for WJZ-TV, Gigi currently teaches communication courses at Morgan State University and freelances during the morning drive at WPGC-FM on The Donnie Simpson Show.

Gigi has a B.A. in Mass Communications from Clark Atlanta University. She holds a M.S.J. from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, where she was the first Hope Bartlett Scholar. She is also a graduate of the Poynter Institute and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. When she's not in front of the camera, Gigi loves to read, teach aerobics, travel and sew.
