Advanced Army Toys Lead To Top Performance

ABERDEEN, Md. (WJZ) ―

Preparing for war takes much time, talent, and nowadays, technology. The Army has almost perfected it.

Gigi Barnett reports they use some special machines to get ready for battle.

Before daybreak, military chants are how servicemen in the Army start their day.

They're training for war, but not without using some major machines.

One weapon of choice is the eight-wheel, all-terrain Stryker. Aberdeen Proving Ground has them and in large numbers.

Aberdeen Proving Ground is the only military base in the nation that trains soldiers how to fix the Stryker Combat Vehicle.

Soldiers are trained on computer simulations first.

"The younger generation seems to have an easier time navigating around in the computer system...they have an easier time knowing where things are," said Staff Sgt. James Dreibelbis.

Another major machine is the Virtual Convoy Combat Trainer or VCCT for short.

In it, soldiers travel in a convoy down a long stretch of Iraqi road where civilians have guns, and soldiers are targeted.

It's the next best thing to the real thing.

"Anything that we do that can give them an advantage over the enemy is plus," said the Cmd. Sgt. Mjr Luis Rivera.

That means using more military machines.
