Thousands Expected For Army/Navy Game

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) ― Frantic fans will flood downtown in Charm City this weekend for the Army/Navy game.

Peggy Lee reports on how this game has Baltimore City business owners seeing green!

Thousands of people will pour into this stadium Saturday and that means millions of dollars for Baltimore.

Army/Navy fans are getting their game faces on and they are prepared to spend plenty of green.

City officials say roughly 70,000 people will squeeze into Ravens Stadium for Saturday's throwdown between soldiers and midshipmen, giving Charm City a $20 million boost.

"All the hotels are being used, we'll have restaurants and bars being used, a lot of traffic there as well," said Tom Noonan, Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association.

"We're looking forward to having all the guests here. We're not quite sold out yet, but we are close to it," said Mary Spies, Hyatt Hotel spokesperson.

While the Hyatt's vacancy list is growing shorter, across the harbor at ESPN Zone their list of hungry customers is getting longer.

"We're expecting large crowds around the harbor and hopefully all the sports fans coming in to ESPN Zone," said Leigh Friedman, ESPN Zone employee.

City leaders hope when grabbing a bite visitors will take in the sights of Baltimore.

"This is more than a game. We're going to have a three day celebration with a number of free activities open to everyone" said one planner.

With the big event's on Saturday there's plenty of time to gear up for the game. Fans are encouraged to come down to the Inner Harbor and check out military items like the Black Hawk Helicopter, which is on display for everyone to enjoy.
